Plettenberg Bay’s Secret Spot – Still Bay
I am in two minds whether to write about this or not. We have discovered such a special, untouched beach in our hometown of Plettenberg Bay, that we thought we might keep it all to ourselves. The coastline along the Garden Route is a mixture of sandy bays, and dramatic cliffs dipping down to rocky shores. Message from the whale company: On our 12h00 boat trip, we encountered a juvenile Minke Whale just behind the back line near to Keurbooms Village. This Whale was very interested in our boat Damara and swam up to our boat circling us a few times. We than left the Minke and on our way home we encountered a further 3 Southern Right Whales. What a fantastic day on the ocean.

Another great day of whale watching in Plettenberg Bay with Ocean Blue Adventures!!! This male breached eight times off the Keurbooms coastline on our 12h00 boat trip. We had a total of 13 Southern Right whales and 3 calves in our bay today. Let’s hope we have good weather this weekend, so you can get your clients out on our boats.

We now have two calves that had been born in our bay so far this year. Message from the whale company: On our 09h30 boat trip we encountered 4 Humpback whales at the Point of Robberg. While watching these 4 whales, a Brydes whale swam past us. On entering the Bay we spotted 4 Southern Right whales off Robberg beach and then a further 5 Southern Right whales off the Keurbooms coastline.

Message from the Whale Company: A female Southern Right whale spotted off Arch Rock at Keurbooms strand in Plettenberg Bay. This is 1 of 3 Southern Right whales currently in the bay. We also spotted a Humpback whale breaching in the middle of the bay +100 – 150 Bottlenose dolphins off Keurbooms Village.

Message from the whale company: On our 12h00 trip on 06th July 2011 on approaching two whales we noticed a mother with a newborn calf literary a couple of days old. We then moved off to a save distance, not to interfere with mother and newborn. According to Mario Boesak, skipper at Ocean blue Adventures, eight days ago he spotted a female Southern Right whale which looked very pregnant. Message from the whale company: A large pod of Bottlenose dolphins came to our bay this weekend feeding on anchovies. They were spread out from Natures Valley, running all the way down to the Keurbooms River Mouth. Everyone thinks that all our dolphins followed the sardines up with the sardine run but many stayed behind to feed on other fish species.

Message from the whale company: On our 9h30 boat trip today we saw a Southern Right whale a Sub-Antarctic Skua as well as Cape Fur Seals. This Southern Right whale was lob-tailing – beating the surface of the water with its tail. This is also a form of communication.
