Newsflash!!! Our first Southern Right whale calf of 2011

July 6, 2011 by Victoria Rowe 2 Comments

Message from the whale company: On our 12h00 trip on 06th July 2011 on approaching  two whales we noticed a mother with a newborn calf literary a couple of days old.

We then moved off to a save distance, not to interfere with mother and newborn. According to Mario Boesak, skipper at Ocean blue Adventures, eight days ago he spotted a female Southern Right whale which looked very pregnant. It is quite possible this whale calved in our beautiful bay in the last couple of days.

We are so lucky to have a protected bay like Plettenberg Bay where these majestic animals can come to mate and calve in peace without being harassed.
