OTTER – African Trail Run 2011

December 24, 2010 by Victoria Rowe No Comment

There has been much hype surrounding the dates for the 2011 Otter – African Trail Run presented by Hi-Tec. The office has been buzzing with enquiries since our last run in September and we realise that many of you have been on the edge of your seats in anticipation with this being classified the Holy Grail of Trail Running !

Magnetic South is extremely pleased to confirm the dates for the 2011 event having been given the necessary “green light” by the Garden Route National Park, Tsitsikama Section.

Grab your 2011 Calendars NOW and set aside the 29 September 2011 to 2 October 2011 as your date to RUN the Otter.

With regards to the entry process our commitment as communicated to you all is to give FIRST OPTION to those who took part in the 2010 Otter – African Trail Run. Entries for this category will open on Monday the 21 February 2011 at 12h00.

Thereafter everyone who has placed their name on the PRIORITY LIST, which is now available (entrytickets.net/ms/otter-priority-list), will then have their chance when entries for this category are opened on Thursday 24 February 2010 at midday. The cost for putting your name on the Priority List will again be R 50.00. PLEASE NOTE that in line with our continued support for an organisation within the Otter Trail community we will be nominating a worthy cause and 100 % of your R 50.00 will be paid over to this beneficiary during our Otter prize giving ceremony.

Finally should there be any entries still available from the above two opportunities then the general public will have their chance when the PUBLIC ENTRIES open on Monday the 28 February 2010 at midday. Thereafter we will establish a waiting list which again will require the R 50.00 placement fee with these monies also being donated in their entirety to the worthy cause.

Our number crunching team are busy finalising the costings for the event. These and all other important race info will follow in the New Year.

What better way to celebrate your Festive Season than to take on the Otter – African Trail Run as your 2011 New Years resolution. Its one sure way to beat all the Christmas calories !

The Sabrina Love OCEAN Challenge, taking place in Plettenberg Bay on 27 and 28 December 2010, has become an integral part of the Garden Route sports calendar and Plett festive season tradition.

Now in its seventh year, the Sabrina Love Ocean Challenge is in aid of the Sabrina Love Foundation that cares for children with physical disabilities in the Plett region. The event is sponsored by the Stonehage Group and Discovery.

With over 1 700 participants taking part last year in seven different activities, this event has become a major fundraiser for a most worthy cause, and a regular meeting place for like minded folk who want to give back over the festive season.

The Sabrina Love Ocean Challenge offers something for everyone, whether you are a competitive sportsman or woman or someone who just enjoys a stroll on the beach. Celebrities from all walks of life give freely of their time to partake in the events.

Natalie Du Toit, who has represented South Africa at the highest level, is a keen supporter of the Sabrina Love Ocean Challenge. She participates in the 6km ocean swim and the one mile river swim the following day. Other top performing athletes include Olympic swimmer Chad Ho, “Comrades King” Bruce Fordyce as well as local heroes Kevin Evans and Michelle Eray. TV celebs Derek Watts and Arnold Geerdts + the very talented Loyiso Bala are all sure to make this an event to remember.

Registration takes place in the afternoon of 26 December at the Beacon Isle Hotel. The following day entrants have the choice of a 10km run, 15km surfski challenge, the 6km ocean swim or the beach walk, with a Kids of Steel Duathlon to conclude proceedings for day one.

All activities on 27 December 2010 take place on Central Beach. The second day of activities includes the newly introduced 1 Mile River Swim and 25km MTB on the Keurbooms River.
