24 September Surfer’s Ball, Central Beach

AN EVENING OF LIKE-MINDED PEOPLE COMING TOGETHER celebrating the surfing lifestyle in a festive party atmosphere. The average surfer does not like to dress up and hence the dress code –half formal half casual. It is quite comical watching everyone arriving in their part attire. THE SURFERS… BALL is something different from the usual nightclub vibe and obviously its great to party barefoot in the sand.
The event was founded by Clayton Bischoff (of Surf Café-fame) & Claire Trebilcock (owner of Tzipporah) who both also run Jamin Surf School. Having grown up surfing the local breaks since 1989, they are now committed to giving back to a sport that has become a lifestyle & sanctuary for them and their team of instructors.
EATS, DRINKS AND DRESS: Men dress in boardshorts and tuxedo tops and ladies dress in party dresses. This year instead of formal seating plans there will be various food stations which guests can choose from, this allows everyone to eat when they feel hungry and dance when they want to without any set itinerary. There are 3 excellent bands playing through the night. A massive dance floor inside the tent will set the scene for some serious partying. For the people who want to chill and sit, there will be a Turkish lounge at one end of the tent. A huge cash bar will be available for thirsty mouths.
FANTASTIC PRIZES UP FOR GRABS: THE SURF SHOP has put up an awesome surfboard for some lucky person. RIP CURL has given a wetsuit and various other goodies. The BAYVIEW hotel has kindly come on board and accommodated the band for the ball. BHEJANE has given 4×4 trips. JAMIN SURF SCHOOL will be offering free surf lessons and THE SURF CAFE will be giving away comp meals. There is also a beautiful piece of furniture given as a prize from BUY THE SEA.
TICKETS & MEAL VOUCHERS: On arrival guests give in there tickets and recieve a wristband and meal vouchers. PLEASE DO NOT LOSE YOUR TICKETS as the security is very strict this year and no exceptions will be made for anybody. Ticket stubs are also required for prize draws. Your meal voucher is SURFERS BALL money. Your SB money voucher buys you food to the value of the voucher at any food station. There is a variety of food to cater for meat eaters to vegetarians.

26 September – 1 October 2010 The Southern Storm

The Southern Storm presented by Hi-tec, dubbed “the Race of the Gods”, is a 6 day, staged trail duathlon that follows a new route every year. The inaugural Southern Storm which ushered in a new era of staged Storm Racing (Sport Traversing Oceans Rivers & Mountains) was described by hardened multisport athletes as the most physically challenging event ever.
The 2010 edition will again start with The OTTER, thereafter traverse semi desert landscapes on the fringes of South Africa’s great interior, before winding its way through magnificent gorges and lost trails in the remote mountain ranges. The race will culminate in the lush coastal landscapes of the Southern Cape.
2010 Southern Storm participants can also expect to be challenged by additional “exploration traverses,” sections of ultra intense adventure interwoven into the trail running and mountain biking routes.
In keeping with our promise, 2009 participants wishing to enter again this year will be given first pririty and a detailed entry procedure can be found on our webpage for both existing and new entries.
Athletes wishing to increase their chances of getting an entry to the 2010 races can do so by registering on the Priority List.
