Where the food comes from the heart of the kitchen

Portuguese Gypsies and peasants of yesteryear lived off the land, as well as the ocean’s bounty, and whatever came home to the table at night, however small, was made into a feast. These home cooked feasts became the traditional cuisine.

Known for their famous breakfasts and wholesome recipes, which have been passed down, the owners of Sao GonCalo’s together with Mama’s influence produce family fare that is both Mediterranean and Continental in taste and spice.

Passionate about food, their intriguing menu offers you a decadent diversity; soup, meat, fish and seafood dishes. Portuguese chicken and steak, omelettes, salads, and home baked goodies and desserts to tempt that sweet tooth. At the same time you can learn more about the journey of the Sao GonCalo and the history of Plettenberg Bay, while the children play in the garden.

Food can be a festival whether you are at home or out and at Sao GonCalo, their home is your home; and they have created just that, the restaurant is not only spic and span with a modern feel but it is warm and welcoming. Go into the heart of the restaurant where there is the crackle of a log fire and the smell of fresh bread baking in the oven.

You can find them at Old Nicks Village N2 Plettenberg Bay +27 (0) 44 533 6016
